Twelve years of night shifts taught me what rest is worth.

Now I help nurses, carers and other people who look after everyone else learn to look after themselves too. Gently, practically, and without another app to feel guilty about.

Is this for me?

Tell me a little about you, and I'll show you where to start.

Try it now · one minute

Before anything else, take one slow breath with me.

Breathe in for four, hold for four, out for six. It's the first thing I teach everyone, because it works in a car park between shifts.

    My story

From the ward to the walk

    2012

    Qualified as a nurse

Surgical ward, then ICU. I loved the work and the people. I didn't notice what it was costing me.

    2020

    The hardest year

Like so many of us, I kept going on adrenaline and coffee. By the end I couldn't sleep even on days off.

    2021

    Burnout, and a long walk

A doctor told me to rest. A friend took me walking in the woods every Sunday. That's where this started.

    2022

    Certified health coach

I trained so I could give other nurses what I'd needed: someone who gets it, with a plan that fits a rota.

    Now

    Coaching, part time nursing

I still do two shifts a month. It keeps me honest about what's realistic.

My week · a sample plan, try it

A plan that bends around your rota

Most wellness plans assume you work nine to five. Pick how you work and watch the week move with you. This is the kind of plan we'd build together, then tweak every fortnight.

      Notes from the night shift

      Handover · 03:12Sample

I didn't need another plan. I needed someone to tell me a nap before nights was allowed. I sleep better now than I have in years.

      Handover · 07:40Sample

The breathing thing in the car park sounded silly. Now I do it before every single shift, and on the drive home too.

Alex ran a workshop for our ward. It was practical, not preachy, and people actually take their breaks now.

      1. Write the three things tomorrow needs from you.
      2. Add one thing you're looking forward to.
      3. Close the notebook. It'll keep them safe until morning.
Takes two minutes, and your head gets to clock off too.

      Make it cave-dark

      Tap to see how ↻
      1. Blackout blinds, or an eye mask if you sleep in the day.
      2. Phone face down, out of arm's reach.
      3. Warm, dim light for the last half hour.
Especially after a night shift, when the sun is shouting at you.

      Swap the 3am snack

      Tap to see how ↻
      1. Pack something small with protein, like yoghurt, nuts or eggs.
      2. Have a glass of water first.
      3. Keep the vending machine for emergencies.
Not a diet. Just fewer sugar crashes at the end of a shift.

      Questions

      Questions people ask me

I work nights. Can you still help?

Yes, that's most of who I coach. I spent years on nights myself, so every plan starts with your real rota, not an ideal one.

Do I need to buy any apps or kit?

No. A notebook helps. Everything else, like sleep, food and movement, we work on with what you already have.

Is this the same as therapy?

No. Coaching is practical and about the next few weeks. If something bigger comes up, I'll gently point you to your GP or a therapist.

What happens on the free call?

Twenty minutes. You tell me what your weeks look like, I ask a few questions, and you leave with one small thing to try. No sales pitch.

Can my ward or care home book you?

Yes. Team workshops run on site or online, and I'm happy to work around handover times.

      Book a time

Let's find one small thing that helps.

The first call is free and there's no sales pitch. Pick what you'd like, choose a time, and you'll get a calendar invite.

      What would you like?
      When suits you?
Where should I send the invite?
